WordPress 5.5 may be the most significant update since the release of Gutenberg nearly two years ago.
The Gutenberg user interface receives a significant update with high contrast icons and more polish throughout. This release also marks the introduction of the Gutenberg Block Directory, a way to find new block types to enhance your WordPress posts. The introduction of Block Patterns will simplify the creation of complex block layouts and streamline your publishing workflow.
If that’s not enough, the image block now supports inline editing for common cropping and resizing tasks. That means you’ll spend less time in an image editor and you’ll hit publish more quickly.
Beyond the Gutenberg refinements, WordPress 5.5 includes built-in sitemaps for search engines and lazy loading to improve your page load speeds.
I take you on a tour of the highlights in this short briefing video.
