WordPress Security Plugin: Better WP Security Setup Guide

If you’re looking for a WordPress security plugin, Better WP Security should be at the top of your list. The plugin is a veritable Swiss Army knife for fixing WordPress security issues.

Unfortunately, the huge array of settings make the plugin a bit overwhelming for most casual WordPress users. This tutorial walks you through the process of setting up the plugin and activating the most important settings.

If you take nothing else away from this video please take note of one setting that could lock you out of your WordPress site. DO NOT ENABLE any of the SSL options unless you are sure that you have an SSL certificate installed on your server.

  1. Hi Kirk,
Will Manage WP work for my 4 subdomains as well?
Do they count towards the 5 site max. for the free version?
(I have a total of 3 sites, with one of them having 4 subdomains).

    Thank you,
    Regards,
    David

  2. Hi Kirk,
Do I have to back up subdomains as though they are the main site or does the backup of my main site also backup its subdomains?
    Thank you,
    Sincerely,
    David

  3. Hi David,

I’m pretty sure Manage WP counts each WordPress installation as a separate site. So four WordPress installations running on subdomains would probably count as four sites. And yes, you should be backing up each of those.

If you’re using WordPress multi-site you may be able to backup the whole network from the Network Admin with a plugin like BackupBuddy.
