The best WordPress tutorials in the world won’t help if you don’t know where to find your WordPress login.
Logging into WordPress is easy — once you know where to look, of course. These instructions are for any self-hosted WordPress.org website.
Take your pick: three WordPress login URLs
To login to your WordPress dashboard just add “/wp-admin/” to your domain name (without the quotes, of course), like so:
http://www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin/
Both “/admin/”and “/login/”also work. So, if you forget the wp-admin just type either of the following:
http://www.yourdomainname.com/admin/
or
http://www.yourdomainname.com/login/
What happens if I’m already logged in?
If you are already logged into WordPress, any of the above URLs will take you to the WordPress dashboard. No need to log in again.
Be sure to check the “remember me” box when you do log in. That way, you can bypass the login screen most of the time.
Still having trouble remembering?
If all of the above methods continue to slip your mind, you can do any (or all) of the following:
- Create a bookmark or toolbar link in your favorite web browser.
- Add the “meta” widget to your sidebar. This widget includes a link to the WordPress admin area.
- Add a login link to one of your custom menus.
Help! I forgot my password!
Of course, knowing the WordPress login address won’t help if you can’t remember your password. Fortunately, the login page includes a link to a password reset page.
Click the “Lost your password?” link just below the login box, and you’ll be taken to a new page where you can enter your email address or your username. Then click the new password button and check your email inbox. Within a few minutes, you’ll receive an email containing a link that will allow you to reset your password.
Please take a close look at that email when it arrives. It also includes your username (in case you forgot that, too!). So, all you need to know is your email address.
