SPAM is bad enough, but comment SPAM somehow seems even worse. You work hard to create and maintain quality content for the readers of your blog, then some spammer comes along and tries to disrupt your comment threads by deluging your blog with ads for pharmaceuticals that promise to enhance body parts you may not even have.
Fortunately, Akismet does a great job of eliminating the vast majority of WordPress comment SPAM. Akismet comes pre-installed with WordPress. This video walks you through the process of setting up Akismet to protect your blog from unwanted comments. You’ll learn how to install Akismet, I’ll show you how to get an Akismet API key, and finally, I show you how to activate Akismet and monitor its progress once it’s running on your site.

Hi Kirk,
Thank You. Very comprehensive and helped me a lot.
If my site is only a business website without any posts do i need to activate Akismet ?
Thank You
Hi Prasanna,
Even if you don’t use posts it’s still possible to leave comments on pages. Be sure your comment system is turned off completely. See the lesson on Discussion settings for more information on how to do that.
If all comments are disabled then you can probably get away without using Akismet.
