Configuring WordPress Settings: Privacy

This video is a continuation in a series of videos detailing each of the WordPress Settings pages. This video will focus on Privacy Settings.

Privacy Settings are fairly new and somewhat minimal at this point. They can be used to turn off update notifications in an effort to hide your blog from search engines. As noted in the video, this is far from a fool-proof solution, but it can be a useful feature in certain situations.

I think it’d be better to have a “development mode” setting where not only would the robots META tage be set to “NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW”, but WP would check user agent strings of visitors and if it’s a known search engine, deny access entirely.

Hi Kirk
Straightforward explanation of this setting.
Particularly liked the note about why you would use the second option… never would of thought about that.

I’ve just had a few problems because I had the second option on and noindex/nofollow meta had been added.

Glad this helped Keith. After changing the setting you should be back in the search engines in a week or so. Quicker if you have high quality inbound links to your site.
